World Congress 2001
(Melbourne)
Jack Wu has attended the World Congresses and Asian Conferences on
many occasions. Barbara Gabogrecan was able to attend one of each
(in Tokyo and Taipei). Melbourne was chosen to host the World
Congress in 2001. Ninety-five delegates arrived from overseas
Chapters and spent a wonderful week in the Crown Towers hotel.
Following the official ‘Welcome’ evening event was the main
Conference day followed by the Congress Dinner with entertainment
provided by Japanese drum players, Swiss musicians, Aboriginal
dancers and ‘didgeridoo’ playing and a Chinese choir etc. The
Conference day presented a number of informative speakers with
Barry Jones being the key note speaker on the day. A special art
display was made available by the MCEI President and artist,
Barbara Gabogrecan. Many delegates purchased silk paintings and
would have a wonderful memory of the conference through these
paintings.
The delegates enjoyed a wide variety of social and business
events during their week long stay. They attended a business expo
at the City of Casey, a business breakfast in Melbourne, visited
the penguins at Phillip Island, went on a Puffing Billy train trip;
played golf, visited a winery and visited the Melbourne Aquarium
where they watched the MCEI secretary, Tina Wu, feed the sharks,
etc. etc.
